There is no need to impress or control

The yang of Ego can be like a laser beam.It is driving and associated with the heat of doing.Yang is emitting energy and gets things done.Yin is the female principle aspect of all things and is seen as being calm and relaxing. It is soft in that it supports, nurtures and holds many dots like the big picture. This is great when we need to be creative, connective and receptive. It is inactive and associated with coolness.Yin is absorbing energy and comes alive when the bigger picture is required. It’s great at providing the circle for the group.Hyperactivity is an extreme yang and while you can get a lot done, the deficiency of yin rest can catch up with you through the appearance of yin deficiency symptoms. These physical symptoms will appear where you are most susceptible. For example, if you use your masculine yang Thinking Mind excessively, you may feel brain symptoms like a headache or migraine, kidney problems, exhaustion, sleeplessness, nervous conditions or irritability. This type of yin is driven by ‘What’s the point?’, which is not a beautiful deep resting, meditative, dreaming yin state that would nurture you.Instead, it is a judgemental state working against a balanced, healthy you. Each person, male or female in gender, has both feminine yin and masculine yang.We are all on a journey to find out which balance of both works for us.Every aspect of our lives must involve yin and yang.Take conversation, for example. As a leader, there is a tendency to listen to things in order to ‘fix’ it.Yang listening is all about listening to provide a solution to a problem. This is great if the person talking actually has a problem.Sometimes they don’t and would just appreciate being valued by being listened to.Masculine yang can think this is a waste of time and a waste of its ability to come up with solutions. In Ego, masculine yang listening can happen as a default unless they are alerted to and become aware of a different type of listening being preferred. That would be to listen as feminine yin would listen. Not to fix a problem but just to be with the story.Sometimes we really require the other person to be a masculine yang listener and we are discussing the problem with a view to the listener providing a possible solution. It is important to know which listener the leader with the problem is looking for. We are innately wired to have cycles or phases of activity followed by rest, masculine yang followed by feminine yin, then back to yang again. If we wake early and push our yang for 16 hours and collapse into bed for eight hours of yin sleep, eventually symptoms can arise to let you know of the imbalance. Can you find time to rest/nurture yourself in a feminine yin way in cycles through the day? You might have been programmed to think that feminine yin is ‘doing nothing’ and is associated with wasting time and not contributing, and think that ‘I could be doing a lot of other more valuable things’.Going to above 60 will help you realize that the Revelations usually all arrive in yin/meditating/contemplating, deep rest time.Karma is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘consequence’.It is an underlying psychological law, much like gravity is an underlying physical law.Karma is similar in that what you ‘put out there’ in terms of a thought or action or behaviour sets up a huge potential for it to return to its origins, which is you. Another example in the physical world is the elasticity law, which says that when you stretch a rubber band, it has the potential to go back to its original shape.Karma is the underlying law that will assure in some way that how you act and cause what you say and think about others is going to come back to you.Like gravity, karma is not the course but its mechanism. It works behind the scenes just as gravity does.Because you cannot see, feel or touch it, then you may be sceptical that it exists. There is no good or bad gravity. If you leave an antique object on a ledge and you knock it over, it is not bad gravity, it is accidental on your behalf.Similarly with karma, there is no good or bad karma, but there are choices that you make that set up certain things happening to you and if you don’t understand karma, you will probably just blame or judge yourself or others.Ego doesn’t want to know about the consequences/karma of its actions it’s easy for Ego to reject the truth of karma. The more ‘good’ and wonderful things you do as a leader in the world, the more potential for that to be returned to you from your team members. However, a person’s karmic patterns are complex because we have participated in more than just personal behaviour. There is a team, family, company, friendship karma that plays out as well.As you become more intuitive in the Witness Mind, the Wisdom Mind becomes available so you can start to feel and read karmic patterns.Ego does not understand or interpret karmic patterns.Great leaders learn from consequences. There is a point when a child realizes gravity will operate, although that child might not understand the mechanisms of gravity.Every leader creates a sphere of influence by means of the tile that they operate in at any given moment.Tiles below 30 offer a sphere of negative disempowered influence of the team/organization.Languaging the Entrapments influences others in a similar way and gives them conscious or unconscious permission to be that way too.The greater the engagement in the tiles language and energy, the greater the force felt in the room when the leader walks in.Alignment can be achieved but there are consequences, e.g. Above 60 is the first association with true power that comes from the leader realizing the truth. The sphere of influence is positive and uplifting and empowering to the leader and team members. As you progress from Stepping In through to Incredible, the sphere of influence magnifies considerably and operates through entrainment.Team members are drawn to the power of these tiles because they promote growth and development of all concerned and look for the highest outcome for all.A leader who walks into the room living, breathing, talking and relating from the higher tiles automatically fills the room with that power. There is no need to impress or control others. This type of attracting response comes with the territory of the higher tiles.Once you enter the higher tile and learn how to stay there, you earn the power associated with it and carry this everywhere with you.A Final ContemplationAs you have become more aware of the different types of mind available to you, there may be a spark within you to really understand why you are compulsively called to employ the Lower Mind in various situations.Identify the situations where Lower Mind, whether unempowered or judgemental, dominates and forces its way in.Can the Witness Mind be asked to enter the situation? What are the stories you live by that are never questioned? Can you identify programmes these stories impose on you?See if you can identify the dot and circle approach throughout the course of one day. What do you discover?Deliberately track the yin and yang aspects of yourself throughout the course of one day.Study karma by watching the day’s events. Can you identify the karmic messages in your life?We recommend you limit the time spent in judging Thinking Mind and transition to Witness and Wisdom Mind, which is where the power is.Both show the energy dynamics of limited connection and deep union in connecting with others through the heart.Leaders who function at this level transform all they encounter. This is a very powerful energy field.Coming Up NextHow do the lower tiles play out in the corporate world? What is a ‘Wounded Warrior’ and why does the ‘snake’ try to control situations? If you are leading your team in sport, medicine, politics, the corporate world or any other arena of human endeavour, any movement towards unpacking and understanding rather than vilifying negative dispositions is movement towards addressing some of the biggest challenges we face globally.Everyone has a role to play in this. The following section addresses some of the ingrained patterns of behaviour that can plague leaders. For the code to make an impact in leadership, current leaders are asked to address their leadership at a personal level and to take responsibility for the spirit imbued into their teams. Both create a specific dynamic that influences people and teams in negative ways, but the Code shows how people locked in this dynamic can be assisted out of it.We also look at two other, more powerful expressions of leadership to make a contrast. The juxtaposition alerts us to the very real consequences of choosing leadership with or without integrity.Activating the toolA starting point for the practical application of the Code is for each individual to rank each tile on the code.10 would reflect ‘this absolutely resonates with me’ and 0 ‘this does not resonate with me at all’.Please see below an example of an emerging leader.Often when we ask people to complete this, there is a natural tendency towards giving yourself a higher awareness ranking than is true and also, leaders can underestimate their own levels of lower awareness. The higher scores highlight strengths in higher awareness or visible areas to develop in lower awareness.240 represents the ranking of an emerging leader.Your personal rankingRank your own scale of awareness from 0–10 and feel where the blocks occur.Be spontaneous and feel rather than think about the ranking.Perhaps ask a colleague to rank you too and compare the findings.Egotistical and Controlling LeadersThrough reading the cases studies presented so far and completing your own personal ranking you may have noticed that people are complex and function from an amalgamation of various tiles at both the victim and perpetrator levels, as well as the deeper tiles.
